While I was in Bloomington I made a pilgrimage to the house Ross Lockridge, Jr. was living in at the time of his suicide.

There was a guy standing outside it with a compost bag. Is this 817 South Stull? I asked.

Yes, he said.

Do you get a lot of nuts like me? I asked, showing him my copy of Raintree County.

Occasionally, he said.

Have you read it? I asked.

I tried, he said.
